Let's talk about professional makeup! Should I get it done for my senior pictures, or should I just do my own?

Whether or not you should get your makeup done for your senior pictures depends on your personal preferences and what you feel will make you most confident and comfortable. Here are some things to think about to help you decide.

What is your Personal Style? If you typically enjoy wearing makeup getting it done for your senior pictures can enhance your overall look and make you feel more polished. Some people feel more confident and empowered when their makeup is done professionally. If you think this will help you relax and feel your best during the photo session, it could be worth it. On the other hand, if you prefer a more natural look or if you're comfortable doing your own makeup, there's no harm in opting to do it yourself. The most important thing is that you feel like yourself in the photos. Sometimes just adding some false eyelashes and a little color to your lips is all you need for that extra little "wow" factor in your pictures.

From a professional makeup artist: "the most important difference between photo-ready makeup vs everyday makeup is we take the lighting your photographer uses into consideration. When you do your makeup at home, that lighting is completely different than how it would translate in a photo. Professional artists will look at photography styles and adjust our techniques accordingly to make sure that the makeup will translate beautifully -no matter where you are, inside or outside. It will also look amazing in person and on camera -which is a technique that professionals will have vs the average person.”

Who doesn’t like being pampered?! With me, your portrait session is never just simply "taking pictures, it's a total experience! So, if you arrive after being pampered, the entire experience has already started on a good note!

But sometimes Professional makeup services can be expensive. If it's within your budget and you feel it's important for your photos, then go for it. However, if it's not financially feasible, there are plenty of tutorials and DIY options available that can still help you achieve a polished look.

What if you're not a fan of makeup or want a natural look?

Most teens aren’t necessarily opposed to makeup – it’s usually that they just don’t know HOW to do it.

so some tips: -You want your skin tone to be evened out, cheek bones enhanced and eyes big and bright! Makeup should enhance your features, not cover them up. -Brows, brows, brows! Your brows really do “make your face” so fill them in with a color close to your hair color or just a shade darker. This is especially important for blonde clients during outdoor photos.

-Apply about 30-40% more makeup. I bet you are thinking, “Whoa, that’s way too much!” Well, for an everyday look, you are probably right, but for pictures, it’s a must! So go just a touch heavier with the liner, shadow and blush to avoid looking “flat” in photos. -Finally, invest in some fake lashes. For a very natural look, I like Salon Perfect 53 Lashes. For a little more drama, Ardell Demi Wispies.

However, there are teens out there that are truly not fans of makeup. And I understand that perspective. Your senior portraits are literally ALL about YOU. So if you want a natural look because you never wear makeup and are worried about your photos not representing your authentic self, skip the GLAM and go all natural if that’s your jam. Ultimately, the decision is yours to make based on what will make you feel most confident and comfortable.
